2006-2007 School Day Schedule

|

Our new school year started on September 11. At the start of each new school year and term, I examine what is working and what isn't and change things accordingly. This year I decided the children needed a morning recess time to help them to concentrate better. I also thought they needed a bribe incentive to complete their schoolwork in a timely manner. Also, I felt they needed a set period of individual time, a slightly later bedtime, and a set time to awake.

With those changes in mind, I created our 2006-2007 School Day Schedule:

   7:00-8:00 Rise & Morning routine
   8:00-8:30 One-on-one with S; independent work for D
   8:30-9:00 One-on-one with D; independent work for S
   9:00-10:00 Group work
 10:00-11:00 Recess
11:00-12:00 Complete schoolwork or, if done and checked, 60 minutes of TV or computer
 12:00-12:30 Chores
 12:30-1:00 Lunch and lunch clean-up
   1:00-2:00 Room time (Quiet time)
   2:00-4:00 Chores then free time
4:00-Dinner Free time or complete school work
 Dinner-9:00 Free time/bedtime routine

I downloaded the Final Master Schedule, Microsoft Word 2.0 Format (http://www.titus2.com/m-schedule1.htm) from the Titus 2 website. In Microsoft Word, I made my master schedule.
Most of our schedule is self-explanatory.

From 8-10a.m. the kids work on school work they can do independently. I work on my daily chores, help with school work, and complete school paperwork (planning and such). My daily chores are: Monday - Laundry Day, Tuesday - Kitchen Day, Wednesday - Gardening Day, Thursday - Office Work Day, and Friday - FlyLady's Home Blessing Day.

From 1-2 p.m. we have a project time. Monday - Cooking lesson, Tuesday - Handwork, Wednesday - Games, Thursday - Crafts, Friday - Computer Game.

From 2-3p.m. the kids play or read quietly in their own rooms while Mom usually talks to her own mom (a thousand miles away) on the phone.

From 3-3:30p.m. each of us works on straightening and cleaning our own rooms.

From 3:30-4p.m. we work on the week's zone. Week 1 - Entryway, Porch, Living room, Dining room; Week 2 - Kitchen & Office; Week 3 - Bathrooms; Week 4 - Bedrooms; Week 5 - Family Room.

From 4-6p.m. the kids complete any schoolwork or chores they have yet to finish. If they've finished their work, they are free to play inside or out.

Our schedule is for Monday-Friday. I don't schedule the weekends; too many changes and nothing is constant. I also do not schedule H.

I keep our master schedule posted in the office next to the family calendar. Also, one copy is posted in each kid's room and another copy is in my control journal.

Schedule Disclaimer

|

Sometimes what seems like an obvious concept to one person may be completely overlooked by another person. I forget that sometimes and entirely take the blame for causing anyone undue stress or concern regarding my posted schedules.

Any schedule or routine posted on this site is nothing more than a plan, a guide, and a suggested course of action.

I am not the sort of person who does well without a plan to follow. Too much A.D.D. However, just because my posted schedule may say "Exercise for me" from 2:00-2:30, doesn't necessarily mean that I exercise everyday from 2 to 2:30. I may not even exercise most days. I put it in my schedule to remind myself and as a goal. I may exercise for only ten minutes from 9:00-9:10 a.m. or p.m. or I may go on a bike ride after dinner with H and the kiddies and the neighbors (which happens upon occasion) for three hours. Just because the schedule says "Homeschooling" for 240 minutes, doesn't mean that we homeschool for 240 minutes every week day. Sometimes we finish our educational goals for the day in an hour and sometimes we take all day. The 240 minutes in the schedule are just a guideline, as is the rest of the schedule.

I'm sorry if the schedule has caused anyone any problems. It wasn't meant to. It was merely an example I wanted to share for those who are interested in creating a daily schedule and are looking for inspiration.
