Nursery Rhymes

| | Comments (0)

Many nursery rhymes are based on historical events. I am amazed at how many rhymes which I have taught my children once had secret meanings. It's interesting to read nursery rhymes I've never heard of and also to find rhymes I long ago forgot.

Little Polly Flinders
Sat among the cinders,
Warming her pretty little toes.
Mother came and caught her,
And whipped her little daughter
For spoiling her nice new clothes.

My mother always bought my dresses at a shop called "Polly Flinders" and now I know why the shop owners chose the name.

I Like Ike is my son's blog. Aside from pestering him regarding grammar, I have no input. Please be nice if you comment on his blog.
